Day Trip – Dagun Growers Market, Mary Valley

On every Saturday 2-5pm, we visited the local Grower’s Market – tried local produce, bought our week’s vege saw the steam train and enjoyed a beautiful short drive in the country.

Kids played over the stream’s footbridge, past the mushrooms and stalls whilst adults enjoyed the variety and quality of local produce. Like a cooperative, we purchased: bananas, chat potatoes, chinese cabbage, varieties of lettuce, baby carrots, fresh tumeric with more exotic vege, yacon. Yet to try it – it looks like sweet potato, and we are told it has a crisp texture like apples and it can be eaten raw or cooked. All the produce is carefarmed which is similar to organic and not nearly as expensive.

The cafe was open and wine and cheese tasting was also on offer. We couldn’t leave without some of Kenilworth’s Red Malling cheese and were told the milk was produced in pointing distance.  A big treat for the kids was seeing the Rattler arrive:

If we had had more time we could have explored the Mary Valley some more and checked out their new Mary Valley Country brochure for some bushwalks. Then over the beautiful Mary River (taken from Gympie, below) back to Rainbow.
