I think there is probably not a better location for a triathlon – beach swims, runs central to town and cycle legs out to beautiful Inskip Point. The weekend of 3 and 4 September 2011 will see our first triathlon event – the Goldcross Cycles Rainbow Beach Triathlon. Kindly sponsored by Gympie Regional Council, the weekend offers triathletes the opportunity to race an Olympic distance triathlon over two days by completing 2 x ‘sprint distance’ events of 750m swim/20km ride/5km run in consecutive days.
The fun and friendly age appropriate format of the Active Kids Triathlon is participation focussed, with all competitors receiving a specially minted medallion and cap as they complete their race. For those who are a little older (14 years +) or young at heart and would like to have a go at a triathlon themselves, they offer the Active First Timers event.
Saturday 3 September 2011
· Race 1: 750m/20km/5km
· Active Kids Triathlon (race run in age groups)
· Active First Timers Triathlon
Sunday 4 September 2011
· Race 2: 750m/20km/5km
Participants can choose to enter either the combined ‘DOUBLE’ race (ie Sat + Sun races), Saturday race or Sunday race. As an incentive to get tri-clubs involved, they are offering a ‘Club Challenge’ Trophy. This is awarded to the club with the most points in the event.
The transition area is located at the helicopter landing area in the park on the corner of Griffen Esp and Clarkson Dr, Rainbow Beach. At this stage it is expected that this will be a start at Rainbow Beach SLSC with the swim headed in the direction of Inskip Point. The swim will be ONE ‘lap’ of a ‘point to point’ swim. The cycle leg is on sealed bitumen roads, mostly flat with very few turns and is rumoured to be one of the fastest cycle leg around. The run leg skirts Wide Bay esplanade, with beautiful views over the Pacific and Fraser Island.
